Introduction
Hey, everyone! Welcome back to Behind the Mike Podcast. Have you ever wondered which companies out there are not only run by Christians but are also bold about their faith? You might have heard of Hobby Lobby or Chick-fil-A, but today I want to share 10 Christian-owned businesses that are making a real difference, and a few of those might just surprise you. In a world where many companies are driven solely by profits, it's refreshing to see businesses where faith, integrity, and serving others are at their core. These companies don't just claim to be Christian-owned; they truly let their faith shape their operations, how they treat people, and even how they give back.
Hobby Lobby – A Strong Start
Let's kick it off with Hobby Lobby, owned by the Green family, known for their strong biblical principles. They're not just closed on Sundays; they play Christian music in their stores and donate millions to Christian causes, including the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C.
Chick-fil-A – The Gospel Bird
Of course, there's Chick-fil-A. The Cathy family has never hidden their faith. They're closed on Sundays and support Christian ministries. Their mission is to glorify God by being faithful stewards of all that’s entrusted to them. Lovingly referred to as the “Christian bird” or “gospel bird,” they continue to make a significant impact. Don't miss my podcast interview with Trudy Cathy White.
In-N-Out Burger – A Hidden Surprise
Here's one that may surprise you: In-N-Out Burger. The Snyder family, particularly Lindsey Snyder, is openly Christian. Have you noticed Bible verses like John 3:16 on their cups? I recently posted about this on social media when I visited my favorite burger spot, which is over 1,100 miles away from me—making it a must-stop whenever I'm close to an In-N-Out.
Forever 21 – Faith on Every Bag
Yes, even Forever 21. The Changs, a Korean Christian couple, founded the company. Mrs. Chang once shared that God told her to open a store after she prayed on a mountaintop. Mr. Chang is known for keeping an open Bible on his desk, and every Forever 21 carrier bag has John 3:16 printed on it—a testament to their core values.
Interstate Batteries – Powered by Faith
Interstate Batteries not only powers your car but is also powered by faith. Chairman Norm Miller shares his Christian faith openly. The company runs national ads encouraging people to consider Jesus and has a long-standing sponsorship with Joe Gibbs Racing in NASCAR.
Covenant Eyes – Tech for Integrity
A tech company, Covenant Eyes provides accountability and filtering software to help people combat pornography and protect their families online, founded by Rhonda Haas. Their mission is deeply rooted in promoting integrity and freedom in Christ, making a positive impact on lives, including my own as an employee.
Sweetwater – Music with Integrity
Music lovers should heed Sweetwater, based in Fort Wayne, Indiana, one of the largest music gear retailers in the U.S. Founder Chuck Surak lets his Christian faith shape the company’s stellar reputation for customer service. Personally, almost all of my podcast equipment comes from Sweetwater, and I love the candy in each shipment!
Tyson Foods – Chaplain Programs
Tyson Foods, another notable mention, was founded on Christian principles. John Tyson established chaplain programs in factories, and despite its public ownership now, the faith-based roots continue to influence the company.
Mary Kay – Empowering Women through Faith
Mary Kay, famed for their pink cars, empowers women through entrepreneurship, founded on faith by Mary Kay Esch. The company was built on principles of God first, family second, and career third. While I don’t personally use Mary Kay, my wife admires their products.
Pure Flix – Christian Content
Lastly, Pure Flix—a Christian streaming service offering faith-based content, ideal for families looking to steer clear of mainstream Hollywood. They provide inspiring movies and series that emphasize Christian values.
Conclusion
Why does all this matter? In a culture where faith is often sidelined, these businesses demonstrate that one can stand for Christ while being successful and impactful.
Colossians 3:23 reminds us to work wholeheartedly as for the Lord, not for human masters. Whether in business or personal life, we're called to live with excellence, integrity, and love. Let these companies inspire you to be bold about your faith in your own endeavors.
